Documenting care in the overcrowded, noisy environment of an emergency room is a challenging task. Nevertheless, physicians need accurate documents with searchable and reliable information to ensure safe treatment results. |

Results
With their PDAs linked wirelessly to the SpeechMagic Server, physicians and nurses are where they want to be - with patients.
Despite tremendous noise levels and the large vocabulary needed to describe the variety of conditions typically found in an emergency room, accuracy is high and corrections are minimal. As a result, the documentation loop is much faster and ER documents are now readable, searchable and available to other clinical staff prior to the physician leaving at the end of their shift. ER documents also deliver suitable information for the electronic chart. |

Results
Alegent Health has seen a return on investment through productivity gains: they planned on a 9% increase in dictation volume, but had 17%. Thanks to speech recognition, they were able to meet the need without adding staff.
In addition to this, physicians increased the volume of a History & Physical report by 20% over the previous year. The easier the access to the dictation and speech recognition system, the more information is being recorded - which results in more complete, comprehensive and timely reports. |
